The Materials

House of Rey is made in PVD-plated stainless steel, a combination chosen specifically because it holds up where most jewelry doesn't.

The coating

PVD is a process that bonds a layer of metal directly onto the surface of the jewelry using heat and vacuum pressure. The finish becomes part of the piece rather than sitting on top of it like with regular gold plating, where a thin layer of gold is deposited onto a base metal that fades.

PVD doesn't do that. Because the finish is bonded rather than applied, it will last a lot longer than regular plating.

The metal

The base of every House of Rey piece is stainless steel. It's corrosion-resistant: it doesn't oxidise with air, and it doesn't react with sweat or water the way silver or brass does. It's hypoallergenic, so it won't cause skin reactions even with daily, extended wear.

In practical terms that means you can shower in it, swim in it, sleep in it, wear it to the gym. Nothing happens to it. It doesn't need polishing or special storage. It doesn't need to come off.

Three years from now, a House of Rey piece will look the same as it does today.
